DISCOVERING OPPORTUNITIES

Yarraton strives to promote character development and personal growth for each resident, encouraging an atmosphere of openness to learning, broadening horizons and discovering opportunities for self-giving.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

With this aim in mind, various activities are organised for the residents of Yarraton – cultural outings, sports and walks, volunteering opportunities, keynote speakers and much more.

SPIRITUAL
ACTIVITIES

Included in these are spiritual activities which are entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. However, Yarraton is open to all young women, regardless of their religious convictions.

Living at Yarraton

Yarraton nurtures an environment where one experiences a home away from home by providing a balanced living, work and study package. Residents who live at Yarraton are guaranteed part time employment on premises, with work hours flexible around their student timetable.

The projects and activities organised at Yarraton are inspired by Christian principles. All residents are encouraged to contribute to create a culture of openness and dialogue.  By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, residents are able to strive for personal excellence and character growth.

Yarraton Employment

Residents who live at Yarraton are employed to work on premises for Warrane College Household Administration, which is comprised of four departments: Kitchen, Laundry, Housekeeping and Cafeteria.

Together, these make up the hospitality services of Warrane College. Residents are given on the job training once they have been accepted into Yarraton.

Yarraton Mentoring

Yarraton offers a one-on-one Mentoring Program whereby residents may elect a mentor from one of the team of permanent staff.

The Mentoring Program aims to provide a source of support to residents in their work, study, and life commitments.

It is conducted through casual meetings between the mentor and mentee on an agreed regular basis.

Testimonials

“Living at Yarraton has made an enormous impact on how much I’ve grown as a person over the last two years. The regular outings, service projects (like singing at Southern Cross Aged Care) and participation in a family-style environment have taught me how to give of myself to others. I’ve made such good friends and gotten to know so many different people. Being surrounded by people who care like a second family has given me such a supportive environment away from home.”

“As a student resident of Yarraton of almost four years, I have had the great privilege of participating in the spiritual life and means of Catholic formation made abundantly available to us as students. The spirit of Yarraton has its roots in the spirit of Opus Dei, a Catholic organization of lay people founded by St. Josemaria. A fundamental teaching of Opus Dei is that work, family life and the ordinary events of each day are all things which may be sanctified and offered to God, drawing ourselves nearer to Him and bringing others along with us.
